Lab Table 1: Section 6-1 and 6-2 Problem Set Complete Section 6.1 and Section 6.2 Practice Problems. Complete Section 6.2 Section Review Worksheet You can find these problems located at this lab station. In addition to these problems, you must also complete the following information seeking activity: 1. Using available resources, compile a list of 5 ionic compounds of your choice. 2. Using available resources, compile a list of 5 molecular compounds. 3. Select 1 compound from your list of 10. Write a 5- sentence paragraph about this compound. Make sure you tell the reader what the compound is and what it is used for!

Lab Table 2: Chapter 6, Section 3 – Naming Ions On the worksheet in Lab Station 1 – COMPLETE Section 6.3 Ionic Charges. Also, predict the ions that will form from the following elements: 1.Na9. At 2.Sr10. Se 3.O11. F 4.S12. Ne 5.Ba13. I 6.Ga14. Xe 7.Sb 8.Bi Name the ions above!!!!

Lab Table 3: Chapter 6, Section 4 – Naming Ionic Compounds On the worksheet in Lab Station 1 – COMPLETE Section 6.4 Compounds Write a procedure that will help someone name an ionic compounds. Complete the worksheet provided at the station. (Naming Ionic Compounds)

Lab Table 4: Chapter 6, Section 4 – Naming Molecular Compounds Create a procedure for naming a “molecular” compounds. Use the textbook to help you with this procedure. Name the following molecular compounds: CCl 4 N 2 O 4 NCl 3 NI 3 P 4 O 10 Cl 2 O SO 2 N 2 O 5 I 4 O 9 Write formulae for: a. carbon dioxide; b. carbon monoxide c. diatomic oxygen; d. diatomic nitrogen

Lab Table 5 and 6: Flame Test Step 1: Seek information on “the flame test”. Obtain what colors the following ions will produce in a flame: a. barium b. calcium c. lithium d. potassium e. sodium f. strontium Make a chart of the information in your notebook. Step 2: Write the formula that results when each ion above combines with chloride ion.

Lab Table 5 and 6: Flame Test Step 3: Obtain solutions numbered 1-6. Place 2-3 drops of each solution into the corresponding cap. Step 4: Light the bunsen burner. (ASK MR. B!) Place the wire into the flame to remove contamination. Step 5: Dip the wire into the solution you are testing. Step 6: Place the wire into the flame. Step 7: Observe the color. Record your results. Step 8: Using the information you found in Step 1 – Identify the cations in solutions 1-6.

Lab Table 5 and 6: Flame Test BONUS ROUND Step 9: Look up information on elemental analysis through spectroscopy. Step 10: Locate spectral line data for the cations listed in Step 1. (The cations you tested for in the flame test.) Step 11: Repeat steps 3-6. Observe the color of the flame using the spectroscope. Step 12: Compare what you OBSERVE to what is EXPECTED. (EXPECTED = WHAT YOU DISCOVERED DURING STEP 9/10)

Central Zone 7: Cumulative Review YOU MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE STATIONS 1-6 TO COMPLETE THE FINAL STATION. Complete final assignment, which summarizes how to name basic compounds. The final is called “Chemistry I/II – Chemical Nomenclature Quiz”
