18 High Neighborhood Cohesion, 2012 * NOTES: The neighborhood cohesion variable was derived from responses to three statements: “People in this neighborhood help each other out”; “We watch out for each other’s children in this neighborhood”; “If my child were outside playing and got hurt or scared, there are adults nearby whom I trust to help my child”. Respondents were asked whether they definitely agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, or definitely disagree with each statement. Only children with valid responses on all three items were included in the denominator.
