2  Submit your Unique Characteristics Paragraphs. 2 paragraphs 125 words each  Deadline was July 1 st !

3  Personal statements should be one page, single-spaced in length.  Separate personal statements for different specialties  2 Variations on the same personal statement for prelim/transitional and advanced programs  Can do individualized personal statements for each program although you risk assigning an individualized personal statement to the wrong program

4  Focus on why the specialty is a perfect fit for you  “Lovin’ the vanilla,” but other flavors are okay too.  It’s okay to make it a bit personal.  When in doubt, play it safe!

5  Ask faculty for letters of recommendation  Letters must be on letterhead and signed.  Can be emailed as a PDF file to osa@mail.med or mailed to OSA office. osa@mail.med  Faculty can also upload letters directly to ERAS.  Target deadline for letters to be submitted is September 6 th.  Check the Student Directory to see what letters have been submitted.

6  You can submit up to 4 letters through ERAS  The MSPE (Dean’s Letter) does not count as one of the four letters.  The Departmental or Chairman’s Letter does count as one of the four.  You do not have to send the same four letters to each program.

8 No Departmental Letters for: DermatologyPathology Family MedicinePsychiatry NeurologyRadiology Ophthalmology Radiation Oncology

9  Gather information about residency programs.  Access the AMA Freida Program at http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/education- careers/graduate-medical-education/freida-online.page  Work on your ERAS application.  Check for individual program application deadlines and requirements.

10 The components of the application are:  MyERAS (Application and Personal Statement)  3-4 Letters of Recommendation  Photo - Email to osa@mail.med.upenn.edu osa@mail.med.upenn.edu  MSPE  Transcript

11  Complete MyERAS application.  Follow up on letters that have not been submitted.  Assign Letters of Recommendation  Review your transcript  Review your MSPE. Make sure that all of the courses are included and grades are correct. You may not change the content of the letter.

12  Submit application beginning September 15th.  Applications should be complete by October 1 st including all letters of recommendation.  MSPE’s are released October 1 st.

13  Register for the NRMP on their website at www.nrmp.org beginning on September 1, 2013.www.nrmp.org  Deadline for registration is November 30, 2013  You must register to participate in the Match!

14  Will begin in October and November  Busiest months are December and January  Interview Workshop will be held in late September  Interview Skills Workshops in September and October.

15  Rank Order List entry begins on January 15, 2014  Deadline to enter lists is February 26, 2014.  First choice correspondence/phone calls should be made by early February.

18  Application submission target dates are at the beginning of September.  Interviews take place in late October, November and early to mid December.  Request an early transcript from the Office of the Registrar.

19  Conducted by the San Francisco Matching Program www.sfmatch.orgwww.sfmatch.org  Three Letters of Recommendation are sent with your application. Also requires a college transcript.  Results are released on January 15, 2014  Students apply for internship positions through ERAS and register for the NRMP.

20  Match is run by American Urologic Association (AUA) www.auanet.orgwww.auanet.org  Application process is through ERAS  Check application deadlines for programs  Results are released on January 22, 2014.
