Survivor Galapagos

Look back at your previous data 1.If the birds were on an island with all of the types of food available, could they all live together? And why? 2.Which birds would struggle to survive if they were on an island with only chips? Explain your answer. 3.If marbles were beetles that had 4 times as many nutrients as rubber bands (worms). What beak type would you choose? Give evidence to prove why.

IslandsPoint Value Main Island (Box #1) This Island has every available food source. Santa Cruz (Box #2) This Island has marbles and chips Santiago (Box #3) This Island has toothpicks, marbles, and chips Beltra (Box #4) This Island has toothpicks and rubber bands Marbles 5 calories Chips 3 calories Tooth Picks 2 calories Rubber Bands 1 calorie

Hypothesis Use your results from the previous day to make a hypothesis about your survival on each of the islands. Consider your top two foods only when determining your chance for success. Explain yourself!

Goal: TO LIVE…YOLO!!!! Your goal is to eat enough food to survive to the next round. In order to survive you have to consume 15 calories worth of nutrients. You can only eat one food item at a time (example if you accidentally picked up three rubber bands, you have to drop them and try again for one) You will have 30 seconds for each round. Any food that is knocked out of the feeding area (off the tray) is no longer edible. Once time is called tally your total calories and return the food to the tray. If you consumed less than 15 calories you are “dead” (this does not mean you are free to play, you must still record data from your group).

Questions 1.What beak(s) are adaptations on island #1? 2.What beak(s) are adaptations on island #2? 3.What beak(s) are adaptations on island #3? 4.What beak(s) are adaptations on island #4? 5.Why do these islands support different adaptations? Use the word environment in your answer.
