Natural latex rubber comes from trees. Discovered by columbus on his 2 nd trip to the Americas in Haiti (caw-uchu = “weeping wood”) Natives used it for basketball and to “rubberize” footwear. Given the name “rubber” by Joseph Priestly, 1770 because it could rub off pencil marks. What’s that smell? Ammonia is added into the collection cups to prevent coagulation.

Woofers used to use natural rubber on cloth surrounds (I think). Now we use this urethane stuff. Someone restored these classic AR3a’s with a modern surround. As tragic as painting an old car with urethane paint.
