2 What’s it all about? In one sentence, what is your book about? What are the major themes in your book? Pick a character. If you were to give him/her advice, what would it be? Find ONE passage in your book of some significance (character development, theme, plot, powerful language). Describe the passage and write WHY you think it is significant.

3 The Example Essay The EXAMPLE essay refers to the use of specific instances to illustrate, clarify, or back up a point. The EXAMPLE essay may be used in conjunction with other forms of essay. For instance, a persuasive essay on the ways in which people no longer show respect. The EXAMPLE essay needs to provide RELEVANT examples that pertain to the main topic/thesis. Use EMPHATIC order, especially if you are wanting to convince or persuade. You start with the example of LEAST impact and end with the example of MOST impact. Potential transitional words and phrases: after all, for example (use sparingly), for instance, in addition, indeed, in other words, moreover, of course, particularly, specifically.

5 Example Essay - Choose a topic from one of the following pages: #1 on page 98 #1 on page 197 Write a 5-paragraph essay. Typed, double-spaced, TNR, 12 pt. font. Each paragraph should be 5-7 WELL- DEVELOPED sentences. You must have an engaging introduction (why do I need to read this), strong transitions, and a conclusion that provide closure. DUE: Thursday, April 11 th.
