3. The Great Disconnect Many – in the name of Christianity – think that being a disciple is something like this: – Go to church: check. – Live moral lives: check. – Read my Bible: check. Such is NOT what makes a disciple.

4. The Call of Disciples: Make Disciples To forsake all. Matt. 10:32-42 To think, speak, behave like Jesus. Phil. 2:3-9 As followers of Christ we are to make: followers of Christ. 2 Tim. 2:2

5. The Purpose of “Training” Our Bible studies are NOT meant to make us better students of God’s word (although it will). The purpose is to transform our lives into “images of Christ”! Rom. 8:29 In other words: we’re training to be disciples of Christ. “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.” (Jas 2:26).

6. End Result We live like Christ. Gal. 2:20 Therefore we proclaim Christ. Eph. 3:8-12

7. Disciples Stimulate One Another “and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,” (Hebrews 10:24–26).
