27. Sukkot and the Messianic Era Chasidic teaching also connects the festival of Sukkot with the coming kingdom of Messiah on earth. Rabbi Meisels taught that each of the festivals celebrates a historical event and a future element of the final redemption. He explained that Sukkot celebrates both the past and the future. It celebrates the historic exodus from Egypt when Israel dwelt in booths, and it celebrates the future Messianic Era:

The fall festivals of the Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Shemini Atzeret all point toward His second coming. They are a "shadow of what is to come" (Colossians 2: 17).
