2. 1 Peter 1:1-9: An Eternal Perspective 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who reside as aliens, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, who are chosen 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood: May grace and peace be yours in the fullest measure. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

3. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.

4. “unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” 1.By context it seems that the salvation referred to in 1 Pet 1:5 is the full package of God’s inheritance blessings. 2.This includes Category 1: the resurrection body, eternal life, imputed righteousness, indwelling of the Holy Spirit; and Category 2: the conditional blessings that believers will receive at the Judgment Seat of Christ, like rulership with Christ in the Kingdom.

The Tests Have a Purpose 7 ἵ να τ ὸ δοκ ί μιον ὑ μ ῶ ν τ ῆ ς π ί στεως πολ ὺ τιμι ώ τερον χρυσ ί ου το ῦ ἀ πολλυμ έ νου, δι ὰ πυρ ὸ ς δ ὲ δοκιμαζομ έ νου, ε ὑ ρεθ ῇ ε ἰ ς ἔ παινον κα ὶ τιμ ὴ ν κα ὶ ε ἰ ς δ ό ξαν ἐ ν ἀ ποκαλ ύ ψει Ἰ ησο ῦ χριστο ῦ · In order that (expressing purpose of the grievous testing) the proof of your faith— much more valuable than gold which is perishing, but through fire being tested— that it may be found to result in praise and honor and unto glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

The Joy Focuses on a Person 8 ὃ ν ο ὐ κ ε ἰ δ ό τες ἀ γαπ ᾶ τε, ε ἰ ς ὃ ν ἄ ρτι μ ὴ ὁ ρ ῶ ντες, πιστε ύ οντες δ έ, ἀ γαλλι ᾶ σθε χαρ ᾷ ἀ νεκλαλ ή τ ῳ κα ὶ δεδοξασμ έ ν ῃ, Who though not having seen you love, into Whom now though not seeing but believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and having been glorified

9. The Test Is Cause for Joy 9κομιζ ό μενοι τ ὸ τ έ λος τ ῆ ς π ί στεως ὑ μ ῶ ν, σωτηρ ί αν ψυχ ῶ ν. Receiving as a recompense the end/goal of your faith, which is the salvation of souls.
