14 JESUS is the CHRIST Psalms 2:1-9 1 Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the L ORD and against His Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.” 6 “Yet I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion.” 7 “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’

15 JESUS is the CHRIST Psalms 2:10-12 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the L ORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

The Authority of Jesus Christ And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28:18-20

The Authority of Jesus Christ “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” Acts 17:30-31

The Authority of Jesus Christ “Now as he (Paul) reasoned about righteousness, self- control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.” Acts 24:25

The Authority of Jesus Christ “He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him; the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.” John 12:48

Christ Destroys Lawlessness Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

Christ Destroys Lawlessness Matthew 13:41-43 “The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

Matthew 15:8-9 “These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

Jeremiah 23:1-6 1 “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the Lord. 2 Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: “You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings,” says the Lord.… 5 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; a King shall reign and prosper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. 6 In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE Lord OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

A Basic Bible Principle We may act without divine authority from Christ, but we will be judged for it! 2 John 9 “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.”

Jeremiah 10:23 “O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.” Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”

Denominational organizations Confessing sins to a priest Using “holy water” and incense Baptizing babies (sprinkling or pouring as modes of baptism) Baptizing those “already saved” Church-funded recreation Church bake sales, fund- raisers Tithing Monthly Lord’s Supper Religious holidays Instrumental music in worship Where Is Christ’s Authority? What DID Christ say that DOES relate to these actions?

27 “To require Bible authority for everything we teach and practice is legalistic, not spiritual.” The Liberal Approach

Who Is “Spiritual”? Those who love, fear and obey God! 28 John 14:15 – “If you love me you will keep my commandments.” 1 John 2:4-5 - “The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected.” 1 John 5:3 - “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments.”

Who Is “Spiritual”? Those who love, fear and obey God! 29 1 Cor. 14:37-38 – “If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him understand that the things which I write to you are the Lord’s commandment, But if anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.”

30 JESUS is the CHRIST Psalms 2:10-12 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the L ORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

Will You Become A Christian? Hear The Gospel (Rom. 10:17) Believe in Jesus as the Son of God (John 8:24) Repent of Your Sins (Acts 17:30) Confess Jesus as the Son of God (Acts 8:37) Be Baptized for Forgiveness of Sins (Acts 2:38) Live Faithfully Until You Die (Rev. 2:10)
