Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob! Psalm 81:1 Call to Worship

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. Text & Music: Martin Luther (1529) A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and pow’r are great; and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing; were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing:

dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he; Lord Sabaoth, his Name, from age to age the same, and he must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed his truth to triumph through us:

the Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure, one little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours through him who with us sideth:

Prayer of Invocation

“Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other… Only in the L ORD, it shall be said of me, are righteousness and strength.” Isaiah 45:22, 24a Call to Confession of Sin

Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Confession of Sin

Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow in your likeness and image, through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen.

(Silent confession)

Israel is saved by the L ORD with everlasting salvation; you shall not be put to shame or confounded to all eternity. Isaiah 45:17 Assurance of Forgiveness

May the peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 Offering

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Text: Thomas Ken (1674) Music: “Old 100 th ” / Genevan Psalter / Louis Bourgeois (1551) The Doxology Public Domain CCLI License #11109756

… The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! Psalm 130 Old Testament Reading

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray… Prayers of the People

Most gracious God, who has promised to reveal His glory among all nations, Hear us as we pray for Your church. Bless all the ministers of Your word and sacraments and unite all Christians in the bonds of holy faith, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord God of our fathers, who has promised to take care of our every need, Give us peaceful times and fruitful seasons. Grant all in authority over us wisdom and strength to do Your will through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Most merciful Father, comfort all who believe the good news of Your grace. We pray for all who are distressed: the poor, the homeless, the sick, the bereaved, and those afflicted in body and mind. Comfort and relieve them according to Your will, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

And now, as our Savior taught us, let us humbly pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

I come with joy to meet my Lord, forgiven, loved, and free; in awe and wonder to recall his life laid down for me. Text: Brian Wren Music: Matthew H. Curl I Come With Joy To Meet My Lord

His name is Jesus! A sacrifice of love, I owe him everything, my life, my all.

I come with Christians far and near to find as all are fed, the new community of love in Christ’s communion bread.

His name is Jesus! A sacrifice of love, I owe him everything, my life, my all.

As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, each proud division ends; the love that made us makes us one, and strangers now are friends.

His name is Jesus! A sacrifice of love, I owe him everything, my life, my all.

Together met, together bound, we’ll go our different ways; and as his people in the world, we’ll live and speak his praise.

How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure, that he should give his only Son to make a wretch his treasure. Text & Music: Stuart Townend How Deep The Father’s Love For Us

How great the pain of searing loss; the Father turns his face away as wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon the cross, my sin upon his shoulders; ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held him there until it was accomplished. His dying breath has brought me life, I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything, no gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom; but I will boast in Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection.

Why should I gain from his reward? I cannot give an answer, but this I know with all my heart; his wounds have paid my ransom. “How Deep The Father’s Love For Us” Text & Music: Stuart Townend © 1995 Thankyou Music CCLI License #11109756

… The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Praise be to you, O Christ! Luke 5:17-26 Gospel Reading

What do you believe? I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. The Apostles’ Creed Confession of Faith

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. (Greet one another with the words, “The peace of Christ be with you.”) Colossians 3:15 Passing of the Peace

Institution of the Lord’s Table

Therefore let us proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. The gifts of God for the people of God. (The Mystery of Faith) Mysterium Fidei

To you, O Lord, I lift my eyes, to you enthroned above the skies. Text: Psalm 123 Music: Matthew H. Curl To You, O Lord, I Lift My Eyes

As servants watch their master’s hand, or maidens by their mistress stand.

So to the Lord our eyes we raise, until his mercy he displays. To you, O Lord, I lift my eyes, to you enthroned above the skies.

O Lord our God, your mercy show, for human pride and scorn we know.

Reproach and shame your saints endure, from sinners who appear secure.

My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine; for thee all the follies of sin I resign. My Jesus I Love Thee Text: William R. Featherston (1864) Music: Adoniram J. Gordon (1876)

My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art thou. If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I love thee because thou hast first loved me, and purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;

I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow. If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I’ll love thee in life and I’ll love thee in death; I’ll praise thee as long as thou lendest me breath,

and say when the death dew lies cold on my brow, “If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.”

In mansions of glory and endless delight, I’ll ever adore thee in heaven so bright,
