Last Friday our teacher Miss Zammit decided to take us for a visit to Valletta.

At first the weather seemed fine and we were enjoying the outing very much. There are many interesting places to visit in our capital city.

After a short walk to the Cathedral, we noticed a sudden change in temperature, as we all started feeling cold.

Also it was turning out to be a cloudy day as the sky filled up with clouds.

The wind now started blowing as well.

The rain started pouring down.

could be heard in the distance. Thunder could be heard in the distance. We could seeflashing as well. see lightning flashing as well.

At school she talked to us about the weather changes and showed us some weather instruments. The teacher decided to end the visit and head back to school.

Our disappointment soon changed to interest as we discussed weather.

. We were shown a thermometer which measures temperature.

Wind speed is measured by using an anemometer.

Rainfall is measured using a rain gauge.

A weather satellite is an instrument launched into space to tell us what the weather is going to be like.

While circling the earth the satellite takes pictures of the earth’s weather.

Miss Zammit also told us that our planet is protected from the sun’s harmful rays by a thick layer of air. This layer which covers the earth is called the ozone layer.

Pollution is damaging this layer causing the harmful rays to enter the earth.

All places around the world have different types of weather - this is called: Climate.

Miss Zammit told us that in some countries terrible winds kill people and damage everything -

It could be a hurricane or a tornado.

When it was finally time to leave school, nobody felt disappointed at how the school outing had ended because we still had learnt a lot of new and interesting things!
