What is a Hurricane? Hurricane Isabel(2003) A hurricane is a storm that is as powerful as a half million atomic bombs.

Hurricane Development Hurricanes develop in five stages then into a hurricane. Those stages are Tropical Wave, Tropical Disturbance, Tropical Cyclone, Tropical Depression, Tropical Storm, and finally a Hurricane.

Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale The Saffir- Simpson Hurricane Scale was formed by Herbert Saffir and Bob Simpson. They categorize hurricane by their wind speeds.

Historic Hurricanes Before they named hurricanes they based them on where they hit land. If they hit in a part of a state that was what the named the hurricane. They also put the year that it made landfall. For example The Galveston Hurricane of 1900.

Parts of a Hurricane There are four main parts of a hurricane. Those parts are the eye, eye wall, spiral rain bands, and rain shields.

Hurricane Preparedness Before a hurricane you should have a plan made out. You should also have a copy of all emergency information. During a hurricane make sure you have plenty of non-perishable food. Also stay with a family member at all times. After a hurricane call a disaster relief for you and your neighborhood.Only use cell phones in a life threatening situation.
