Mór Than Born 19th June 1828., Óbecse. Died in Triest on 11th March 1899. Famous Hungarian painter of period of Romanticism during 1800’s. His paintings typically historical. He painted battles, war devices and objects.

After secondary school he studied law and philosophy in Pest. He studied fine arts from Miklós Barabás. Miklós Barabás was an important person in his life. Than Mór became a well-known artist abroad, too (e.g. Italy) Life

Artúr Görgey He was a war painter beside Artúr Görgey, the leader of the Hungarian spring campaign in 1849. In his series of aquarelles a lot of battles can be seen.

The Mohács disaster He lived in Paris for 5 years and made this painting there. This picture is not usual as shows heroism of the Hungarian army and not ‘the death of the nation’.

Szolnok battle One of the paintings of the Spring campaign aquarelle series about the beginning of the campaign on (the) 5th (of)March 1849 in Szolnok. The painting is about the scene where General Damjanich took over Hapsburg guns next to Saint János Church. There are more statues in Szolnok to remember the heroes of this battle.
