2 Meet the Goddesses… Minerva – Mrs. Miller Goddess of wisdom, the arts, science, trade, and war Equivalent to the Greek goddess Athena

3 Venus – Mrs. Hero Goddess of love, beauty, vegetation, gardens, and vineyards Equivalent to the Greek goddess Aphrodite Married to Vulcan but more fond of Mars

4 Vesta – Mrs. Daly-Rouse Goddess of the hearth, home, and family Equivalent to the Greek goddess Hestia Patroness of the Vestal Virgins who tended the hearth of Rome

5 Juno – Mrs. Beckford Goddess of Roman finances, warlike queen of the gods Equivalent of the Greek goddess Hera Married to Jupiter (Zeus), king of the gods

6 When in Rome Activities Our activities this week will include… Creating a Gen (family) standard Designing a mosaic Painting a krater style pot

8 Your Gen will earn money by making goods such as these for the market: Mosaic Trivet Laurel Wreath Crown Saturnalia Candle

9 Demonstrations and Reenactors Legionary Gladiators Glassblowing

10 Daily Dress You will be assigned a tunica to wear Monday through Wednesday of MiniWeek. At the end of each day, please hang it up in the assigned area. Additionally, you will need to wear the following items: Sandals (put these on after you arrive) White T-shirt or long sleeve T-shirt – Please turn yours inside out if it has any color on it. Comfortable pants or shorts

11 Pater Lead your gen in a responsible Roman manner Help to keep it organized and attentive Be a productive member of the Senate

12 Mater Assist the pater Keep a record of the denarii earned by your gen Organize the gen activities

13 Filius/Filia Major: Serve as a role model within your gen Remember that someday you might becomes its leader Obey parents Minor: Help everyone see the fun in life; some adults, such as your mater and pater, take life very seriously and forget to have fun Obey parents

14 Servus/Serva Do the bidding of the mater and pater Guide the children Work toward buying freedom

15 Bulla Bullas were a neckchain and pouch containing protective amulets. Roman boys wore the bulla before the age of manhood. It was given to them very early in life. The bulla of an upper- class boy would be made of gold.

16 When in Rome Bullas Our first activity for our Miniweek will be to create our own bullas. Try to show your own personality and style in the bulla you create for yourself.
