4 The Battle of the Bulge Lasted from December 16, 1944 to January 28, 1945 600,000 Germans, 500,000 Americans, and 55,000 British fought in this battle making it the largest land battle in WWII In the conclusion to this battle 19,000 Americans were killed, 200 British killed, and 100,000 Germans killed

5 Stalingrad The Battle for Stalingrad was the bloodiest battle in WWII Total casualties for this battle ranged anywhere from 1 to 2 million On August 23, 1942, precisely at 18:00, one thousand airplanes began to drop incendiary bombs on Stalingrad. In that city of 600,000 people, there were many wooden buildings, gas tanks and fuel tanks for industries. Stalingrad was heavily hit by air attack; one raid of 600 planes started vast fires and killed 40,000 civilians.

6 The Invasion of Poland On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. The Polish army was defeated within weeks of the invasion. After heavy shelling and bombing, Warsaw surrendered to the Germans on September 28, 1939. The Soviet Union invaded eastern Poland on September 17, 1939.

7 North African Battles The North African Campaign of the Second World War was extremely important because it was the only land based fight that the Allies It was very important in strategic terms with the Mediterranean, and the British African Empire at stake.

8 The Battle of Britain A new type of combined operations tactics which the Germans called Blitzkrieg were used where tanks, troops and aero planes attacked together and smashed through any traditional defenses. The Battle was fought from July 10, 1940 to October 31, 1940
