Talk with your table group… The person whose birthday is closest to today is the note taker for the table. Use the white paper and markers at your table to write the Professional Learning topics/initiatives that you can describe. Choose someone to share with the large group in 5-8 minutes. 5

Count Around Jigsaw 1. At your table, count around 1 through 5. 2. Go to the designated tables for 1s, 2s, 3s, etc.. 3. At your table, read your domain (1s read Domain 1, e.g.). Highlight important portions that you want to be sure to discuss. 4. Discuss with your group the important attributes of your domain so that everyone can share the group’s input with their original table group. 11

Find the Domain Activity Read the short vignette on your card and use the post-it notes to jot evidence of a domain and related components. Choose the area of the room (designated by the Domain number) that you think best fits your card. Once everyone has chosen an area, begin reading your vignettes until a trend is noted and discussed. Your group might choose to read aloud all the cards. 12

Effective Teaching “Teacher Quality has been consistently identified as the most important school-based factor in student achievement (McCaffrey, Lockwood, Koretz, & Hamilton, 2003; Rivkin, Hanushek, & Kain, 2000; Rowan, Correnti & Miller, 2002; Wright, Horn, & Sanders, 1997 ), and teacher effects on student learning have baeen found to be cumulative and long-lasting” (Kain, 1998; McCaffrey et al., 2003; Mendro, Jordan, Gomez, anderson, & Bembry, 1998; Rivers, 1999; Sanders & Rivers, 1996). 22
