WATER AND SOIL CONSERVATION

BACKGROUND: Water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen. Water occurs in three states, liquid, ice and gas. The state of water varies because each state has its independent density.

HYPOTHESIS: Water can be replenished naturally by the hydrologic cycle and artificially with the aid of modern industrialization.

AIM: To conserve water and soil at the same time. To get clean water from the atmosphere.

ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN: Three interrelated techniques: terracing, sand dam and trees. The Atmospheric Water Generator.

Terracing, Sand Dam and Trees: Terracing involves sloping land into a number of flat areas resembling a series of steps. It maintains water and soil in farms. Sand dams are a simple, low cost and maintenance, replicable rainwater harvesting technology. It provides water for tree nurseries. The roots of trees hold the soil together and enable water penetration. The leaves of trees help reduce soil temperature and wind erosion.

Atmospheric Water Generator

AWG cont. The atmospheric water generator extracts humid ambient air. The water vapor is then condensed by cooling air below its dew point thereby exposing it to desiccants like silica gel and zeolite.

EXPECTED RESULTS: More water is conserved in the soil. Soil and water erosion are reduced drastically. Provision of clean, local water supply for domestic and farm use. AWG will render water potable. AWG will provide pure drinking water. Increase in food production.
