Sweet Christmas Bread Vánočka

Ingredients Grated lemon peel 2 egg yolks 110 g of powder sugar 1 pack of vanilla sugar 0,25 l of warm milk 500 g of plain flour 110 g of butter 1 tea spoon of salt 30 g of golden raisins 50 g of almonds 30 g of yeast

Instructions 1. Put 1 spoon of plain flour, yeast, 1 tea spoon of sugar, 2 spoons of warm water into a bowl. Mix it and leave it for 3 minutes. 2. Put egg yolks, butter and sugar into a mixer bowl and mix it.

Instructions 3. Add flour, warm milk and yeast mixture into a mixer bowl and make the batter. 4. Once you have made the batter, mix in the raisins and half of the almonds.

Instructions 5. Put the batter into a bowl and leave it for app. 1 hour in a warm place and cover it with a towel. Afterwards, mix it with a wooden stirring spoon. Then leave it again for 1 hour. 6. Put the batter on the desk. Divide it into 2 halves. 7. Divide the first half into 3 pieces. Divide the second half into 5 pieces.

Instructions 8. Roll each batter piece into a rope (30cm long). Braid the three larger ropes like in the picture. Put the braid on a baking paper on a baking sheet. 9. Brush the top of the braid with egg white.

Instructions 10. Braid 3 smaller pieces of batter into a braid. Place this braid on the first (larger) braid. Brush the top with egg white. 11. Braid the remaining pieces of batter. Place it to the top of bread. Leave it for a while. Heat the oven (190 degrees).

Instructions 12. Brush the bread with egg white. Put sliced almonds on it. 13. Cover the bread with a baking paper. Put the bread into the oven. Bake it for app. 45 minutes.

Instructions 14. Dust with confectioner‘s sugar. Let cool completely before slicing.

The sweet Christmas bread may be served either with honey or butter or jam. Some people eat it with garlic. Enjoy your Christmas bread
