4 We are created to Worship  We can’t help but pass on our values of worship to the next generation.  Worship is a response to whatever we treasure most in our lives.

6 Psalm 78:1-8  Divided into 4 parts: 1.Plea 2.Command 3.Content of the Command 4.Reason for the Command

7 The Plea  78:1-3 Main Point: Incline your Hearts to God! 1.Something we must place a high emphasis on! 2.Ecclesiastes 5:1 3.James 4:8 4.Psalm 51

8 The Command and Content  78:4-6 Main Point: Tell the Coming Generations of the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. 1.Asaph took the Command Seriously. 2.The Gospel is the strongest display of God’s deeds, might and wonders!

9 Last week’s questions  How seriously do we take the command to “Tell the coming generations of the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done?  Are you a “Disciple Making Disciple”?

10 The Content for the Command  78:4 Tell the coming generations of the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. 1.The Command is God-Centered 2.Isaiah 42:8

11 The Content for the Command  The Message is very clear: GLORIFY GOD, ADORE GOD, NOT MAN!  Romans 11:33-36

12 The Reason for the Command  78:4-5 We will not hide them from their children but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children,

13 The Reason for the Command  78:6-7 that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments;

14 The Reason for the Command  78:8 and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.

15 The Reason for the Command  78:4 So that they should set their hope in God 1.What is Hope? 2.What is Biblical Hope?

16 The Reason for the Command  What is Biblical hope? It is a confident expectation of good things to come… -John Piper …In and through God for His Glory and the Joy of the saints

17 The Reason for the Command  78:7 So that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, Truth 1: “Forget” is not a passive verb. Truth 2: If they never hear, they will forget.

19 The Reason for the Command  78:8 And that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God. 1.Do not hope in past generations. 2.It doesn’t mean we can’t learn from past generations! In fact we absolutely should!
