16 AAUW Fundraising Policy “Guidelines for Branch Fundraising Activities” – Adopted in 1974, revised 1983, 1986, 1989, 1993, 2004, 2007 and 2009 (one-page document) Fundraising Committee, Finance Committee, Regulatory Guidance Task Force and Governance Committee worked on new 6-page policies for almost a year Passed by AAUW Board in February 2014 All fundraising and development policies given own number in 500 series 16

17 Fundraising Policy 501 AAUW Branch/State Fundraising Credit IRS Regulations of Not-for-Profits Regarding Contributions Contributions that are Tax-Deductible Contributions that are NOT Tax-Deductible Submission of Contributions to AAUW National Matching Gifts Limiting of Donations and Fundraising Efforts to AAUW Direct Mission-Related Programs Quarterly Reports and Confidentiality 17

18 Key Issues of Policy Change Funds raised using the AAUW (national) name must go to support AAUW national programs, activities and services or other directly mission-related purposes, i.e. AAUW Funds. Funds raised using the name of the AAUW-affiliated entity must go to support programs, activities and services or other directly mission-related purposes of the AAUW- affiliated entity. (NOTE: It is acceptable to pay a program stipend to an organizations that does a branch program IF you USUALLY give a stipend to speakers. This comes out of the program budget.) 18

19 Fundraising for Other Charities Fundraising for other organizations at AAUW meetings and events or in AAUW publications is not allowed. Members may fundraise for other organizations separately as individual or as members of other groups Added a new policy on Scholarships 19
