2 Learning Objective: Today we will learn how to use the different parts of a book.
Reading 1.2 Do gestures with students. Open one hand for compare and another hand for contrast and ask students to repeat

3 What will we learn to use today?
We will learn to use the parts of a book. What are the parts of a book that you have already learned?

5 Parts of a Book Title page: This is the page where you see the title at the beginning of the book(not the cover) Table of Contents chapter titles and the page you will find the chapters on. Preface: tells you why the author wrote the book, found at the beginning of the book

6 Why is it important? This will help you use the different parts of a book to find information quicker. Why is it important? Importance Read the importance and have students offer other reasons: call on volunteers Elaborate on meaning CFU: Why is this important Part 2 of importance: Can any one think if other reasons why this will be important? volunteers Can you think of a reason why it is important?

8 Preface The introduction to the book.
Remember that “pre” means before. Tells you why the author wrote the book.

10 Parts of a Book Index: a list of different topics found in that book, found in the back of the book, not all books have one Appendix: The extra information the author may have left out, put at the end of a book. Glossary: Find the meaning of words you read in the book

11 Index List of topics or subjects Located in back of the book
Alphabetical order Gives very specific information – details of contents of the book

12 What’s an index good for?
Helps put information in order Reduces the time you hunt for information

13 Appendix The extra information put at the end of a book.

14 What’s an appendix good for?
Gives you information or charts that the author may have left out when writing the book.
