WAIMR HISTORY  WAIMR founded by: - The University of Western Australia - Royal Perth Hospital - Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital  Capital fundraising campaign (1998 – 1999) - Wesfarmers the founding sponsor - Strong support from State Government, donors/sponsors  2003 - Fremantle Hospital joined WAIMR

5. STATUS  Independent medical research Institute  Incorporated body under the Associations Incorporation Act of WA  Not-for-profit organisation  Charitable organisation under the Charitable Collections Act of WA  Affiliated with UWA

WAIMR PHILOSOPHY  Enhance medical research in WA  Focus on causes of adult diseases  Translate fundamental discovery research into clinical applications  Promote collaboration  Provide new research facilities  Support State-wide infrastructure (equipment, administration etc)  Recruit excellent researchers
