Hebrews 13:3 “Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.”

What is happening? Approximately 200 million Christians in over 40 countries endure persecution such as physical abuse, family separation, incarceration, and martyrdom. Thousands will be martyred and suffer for their faith this year. More Christians have been martyred for their faith in the 20 th century than all previous 19 combined.

The first request of persecuted Christians around the world is always the same: “Pray for us”

Prayer Makes a Difference "Prayer breaks all bars, dissolves all chains, opens all prisons, and widens all straits by which God's saints have been held." E. M. Bounds

The Apostle Paul “Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” Ephesians 6:19-20

The Apostle Paul “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.” Colossians 4:2-4

Samuel M. Zwemer "The history of missions is the history of answered prayer…it is the key to the whole missionary problem. All human means are secondary."

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart. May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy. And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done. Amen A Franciscan benediction
