Cold-blooded animals take on the temperature of their surroundings. That means when their environment is cold their body temperature is cold. For example if the sun is hot on an animal the animal is hot. Warm-blooded animals are able to maintain a certain body temperature over a wide range of temperature surroundings in the environment. For example that means their body temperature stays same in the environment that is cold.

Warm-blooded animals can stay active when it is cold and hot because they have to eat a lot of food to generate there own heat. Cold-blooded animals don’t eat a lot of food to generate there own heat like warm-blooded animals. But cold-blooded animals move into a warmer spot and generate their own heat by basking in the sun. Cold-blooded animals can hardly move

Cold-blooded animals like turtles iguanas have to bask in places about 90 F or if the temperature is 80 F they will be less active. Warm temperatures make animals like turtles and iguanas digest and gain nutrients. These animals have a day/night cycle, that means they need to stay warm in the day and at night too.

Fish who live in colder areas migrate to warmer areas in the winter. Some fish have a special chemical that acts like anti-freeze so the can survive cold temperatures. Some cold-blooded animals hibernate during cold temperatures. Insects can die during cold winters so they migrate in warmer areas or they go underground. Mosquito fish hibernate in warmer areas in the pond and do not go in shaded areas.

Warm-blooded animals try to keep the inside of their body at a constant body temperature they do this by generating heat in the environment that is cool and the environment that is warm. Warm- blooded animals have to eat a lot of food to survive. Only a little amount of food that they eat gets to the body mass and rest is used for a constant body temperature. They also have fur to keep them warm.
