Pay people enough so that they are not always thinking about money and then they can concentrate on the job. Once you do that there are 3 key factors that lead to better performance:

15 Building and Keeping the Right Team Autonomy: Our desire to be self directed. Teachers do not perform at their best under a microscope (micromanagement). Micromanagement is great if you want compliance. But if you want engagement, self direction is better.

16 Building and Keeping the Right Team Mastery: Our urge to get better at what we like to do. If a teacher on your staff is not constantly pestering you about providing more professional development … might be time to upgrade!

17 Building and Keeping the Right Team Purpose: Our deepest desire to do something that is transcendent… bigger than us! This hits right at the heart of a teacher! The best employer will find ways to create a workplace environment that frees up a teacher to be able to just teach! This is their calling…their purpose fulfilled.
