1 INVESTIGATION : The Path of Light From Air into Acrylic In groups of 3, decide who will be the MATERIAL manager, TASK manager, and SAFETY officer. Every person must have a role. Material manager: responsible for getting all the material and for cleaning up. Task manager: responsible for becoming familiar with the procedure, and knowing what the group members have to do (step by step). Safety officer and recorder: responsible for any safety issues, and for recording the measurements for their group. In your groups, fill out Table 1 on your handout and answer questions # a to i on a separate piece of paper. To be handed in by tomorrow’s class. On your question sheet, please write down the names of your group members and their responsibilities. 11.1 Refraction of Light

2 What we’ve covered so far... 10.1 Sources and Nature of Light – Definitions: Incandescence Flourescence Luminescence Phosphorescence Chemiluminescence Bioluminescence – Electromagnetic Spectrum – HW: p.410 # 1-7 10.2 Properties of Light and Reflection – Understand the key terms – Laws of Reflection – The 4 characteristics of an image in a plane mirror (using SALT) – How to locate an image in a plane mirror using a ray diagram – HW: p.414 # 2, 3... p.418 # 1,2,4,6... “Finding Images” handout 10.3 Images in Concave Mirrors – How to draw ray diagrams for concave mirrors (you could be asked to draw any one of those five scenarios) – The 4 characteristics of these images in concave mirrors (using SALT) – HW: “Concave Mirrors & Ray Diagrams” handout 10.4 Images in Convex Mirrors – How to draw ray diagrams for convex mirrors – The 4 characteristics of the image in convex mirrors (using SALT) – HW: p.434 # 1,3,4 (LC), and “Curved Mirror” handout 11.1 Refraction of Light – Describing Refraction (i.e. Golf cart in mud) – Describing refraction using rays – Index of refraction n=c/v and calculation problems. – Dispersion and ROYGBIV – HW: p.455 # 1-4 and p.456 # 1-8
