2 Social Women were lower than men – had a different market day – Nur Jahan- – Nur Jahan- wife to king, handled affairs, helped rule the empire, brilliant politician Family tension – Akbar had many wives and widows could remarry – Aurangzeb killed his brother and put his dad in jail Cultural blending – Upper class spoke Persian – Spoke Hindi – Armies spoke Urdu Lower class suffered while the upper class lived extravagant lives

3 Political Government was a bureaucracy – Natives and foreigners could be high officials Stronger leaders vs. weak leaders – Babur- – Babur- good military leader – Akbar- – Akbar- liberal ruler – Jahangir and Nur Jahan- – Jahangir and Nur Jahan- good control of power – Shah Jahan- – Shah Jahan- built Taj Mahal – Aurangzeb- – Aurangzeb- killed brother, put dad in jail Golden Age Rebellions – Nur Jahan’s son- Khusrau rebelled Joined Sikhs – Rajputs rebelled  never completely defeated
