Read the following passage and follow the directions given. The number of school-age children who spoke a language other than English at home rose from 4.7 to 11.2 million between 1980 and 2009, or from 10 to 21 percent of the population in this age range. The percentage of school-age children who spoke a language other than English at home and spoke English with difficulty increased from 4 to 7 percent between 1980 and 2000, and then decreased to 5 percent in 2009.
