Response to Literature Beauty and the Beast

Introduction: In the story, Beauty and the Beast by Jean Cocteau, the author’s message is don’t judge a person by their appearance.

3 Reasons Reason #1: The Beast is scary looking so people are afraid. Reason #2: Belle gets to know the Beast better and isnt scared of him. Reason #3: Belle didn’t like the Beast because of how he looked, but by the end of the story she feel in love with him.

Reason #1: The Beast is scary looking so people are afraid First of all, people are afraid of the beast because of how he looks. –Belle’s father goes to the beast’s castle when he needs shelter from the weather. He is scared when he meets the beast for the first time. Most people would be afraid of a beast. The people might think because of his size and looks he may hurt them. This proves that people are afraid of others when they are different or scary looking. In fact, Belle felt this way at first.

Reason #2: Belle gets to know the Beast better and isn’t scared of him. Belle thought the beast was scary when she first met him, but over time she got to know him. –The Beast was encouraged by his friends to be nice to Belle so that she would like him. You can’t make friends unless you are nice to people. By showing respect, being honest, being yourself, getting to know others, and find common interest. If you want people to be a friend of yours you need to start by being a friend to them. –The Beast shows kindness to Belle and she begins to like him. By being nice to others they begin to like you. They found common interests and began to spend a lot of time together. We learned that Belle was wrong about the Beast.

Reason #3: Belle didn’t like the Beast because of how he looked, but by the end of the story she feel in love with him. In the beginning of the story, Belle thought the beast was hideous and mean, but after spending time with him she found out that he was a kind, loving guy. –The Beast starts asking Belle to do things together like eating dinner, reading in the library, playing in the snow, and dancing. People should be nicer so they can get to know each other. It is rewarding to be nice to people especially when they are in need. The more time you spend with someone the better you get to know them. If more people had taken the time to get to know the Beast like Belle did they may not have been afraid of him. –Belle’s feelings changed when she realized he allowed her to leave to help her father. She starts to realize he has a soft and kind heart. By allowing her to leave she realized he must care about her. The Beast realized he need to care more for others than himself The Beast changed and was nice to Belle, and because of this Belle fell in love with him.

Conclusion In the story “Beauty and the Beast”, the author was trying to say that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. –People had not taken the time to get to know the Beast because he was scary looking. –Belle got to know the Beast and wasn’t scared of him anymore. –Belle judged the Beast on his looks, but realized he was perfect for her. People should know that first impressions are not always true.
