THE STORY The Right Hand of the Father

THE STORY Who is Jesus? Above all, he is the savior, but what does that mean? How does Jesus become Savior? If he is Savior, why isn’t he here saving us? Why did he leave and where did he go?

THE ASCENSION Acts 1:9-11 A puzzling scene from then to now. Peter didn’t expect it, v. 6. The apostles didn’t understand it, v. 10-11. It is the scene that makes you stop and say, “What just happened?!”

WHAT IS ASCENSION? The ascension is not … Merely a change in geography. Merely a disappearance. The end of his humanity. The ascension is … The coronation of the King. The enthronement of the God-Man.

CORONATION Daniel 7:13-14 I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.

HE CONTINUES He is still our prophet, but now speaks through the Spirit, John 14-16. He is still our priest, but now serves continually before the face of the Father, Hebrews 7:23-28. He is still our king, but now sits on his throne and blesses his people, Ephesians 4:4-16.

HE IS THERE He is there when we need to hear God, Hebrews 1:1-4. He is there when we fail and God needs to hear us, 1 John 2:1-2; 1 Timothy 2:5. He is there when we face suffering and death, Acts 7:54-60.

LIFT UP YOUR HEADS Psalm 24:7-10 Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory! Jesus is Savior because He rules and intercedes in Heaven.
