35. New York City Over time, New York City has grown and grown and it has become a great metropolis. I'd like to live in a busy city like that! A city has many neighborhoods. A neighborhood is where people live, work and help each other. A group of neighborhoods is a community. To make a community work, the people who live there must agree to respect the laws of the community. For example, a law in New York says that people cannot talk on their cell phones while they are driving their cars. When we follow the laws, everything works better. Many people live in the large buildings in the urban area of the city. That is why we see so many people walking through the streets. Others live in communities near the city; these communities are called suburbs. In the suburbs, there is more peace of mind.
