ROMANS 1:1-17

WHAT IS THIS ‘OBEDIENCE OF FAITH’?
Romans 6 (excerpts) 1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?

Romans 6 (excerpts) 5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin.

Romans 6 (excerpts) 11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

WE ARE CALLED OF JESUS CHRIST TO THE AFOREMENTIONED ‘OBEDIENCE OF FAITH’
Romans 1:8-10 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world. 9 For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you, 10 always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at last by the will of God I may succeed in coming to you.

WHAT IS THE ‘GOSPEL OF HIS SON’?
Ephesians 1:7-8a ( NASB ) 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace 8a which He lavished on us.

THE CONGREGATION’S FAITH IS BEING TESTIFIED ALL THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AT THAT TIME AND EVEN NOW. HOW DOES OUR ‘OBEDIENCE OF FAITH’ STACK UP? Romans 1:11-13 11 For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established; 12 that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other’s faith, both yours and mine. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that often I have planned to come to you (and have been prevented so far) so that I may obtain some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles.

WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF ‘SPIRITUAL GIFTS’ THAT ENCOURAGE FAITH AMONG THE FELLOWSHIP OF BELIEVERS?
Galatians 5 (excerpts) 13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.

Galatians 5 (excerpts) 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

Romans 1:14-17 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.”
