19/12/06SAM_LGS_1, CTIO, Optics1 SOAR at Horizon Telescope Ring Section= 1272.4x336mm Laser Box Width=300-400mm

19/12/06SAM_LGS_1, CTIO, Optics2 Yoke-Ring Space near Elevation Axis First conclusion: Laser Box cant go on the low side of the ring neither above the Elevation axis.

19/12/06SAM_LGS_1, CTIO, Optics3 Laser Box Size Laser Head(+Connectors):~900x140x90mm Space (Align/Dump Mirror):~150mm Beam Expander: 141x  31.75mm (could be up to 200x  50mm) Compensator: 110x230x166mm (because of rotator and vernier) Steering Mirror stand:~50x50mm Extra Width (Align.Laser/mirror):~100mm Extra Length (Beam/Align Camera):~100mm Base Plate/Table: 25.4 to 60mm Laser Box Estimate: 1510x330x226mm Laser Box Mock : 1600x400x250mm

19/12/06SAM_LGS_1, CTIO, Optics4 Soleil-Babinet Compensator 8-500-UV-25 from Special Optics CA=25mm, Max. Retardation=400nm, Resolution=0.5nm and Price= $4.150 Space needed (l x w x h)=110x229.4x165.4mm

19/12/06SAM_LGS_1, CTIO, Optics5 Laser Control and Cooler

19/12/06SAM_LGS_1, CTIO, Optics6 Laser Box on Truss Pros: one mirror less, follows serrurier flexure Cons: mechanical support?, adjustable M3 on LLT, ~70Kg on one truss?

19/12/06SAM_LGS_1, CTIO, Optics7 Laser Box Horizontal on SOAR Ring Pros: beam is folded up along a truss then over a spider arm so can be protected, M3 on LLT fixed. Cons: a shelf must be made on the telescope ring, the cable end of the box is positioned opposite to the nasmyths (could be good for the electronics control but bad for the cooling system).

19/12/06SAM_LGS_1, CTIO, Optics8 Laser Box (Hor./Vert.) at Bent-Cass port 2 Pros and Cons are the same as for all vertical (except on truss) and horizontal configurations, i.e. one mirror less and adjustable M3 on LLT v/s M3 fixed and one mirror more (M5). But the bent-cass port has one extra advantage, i.e. we can use the instrument holes that are already there.

19/12/06SAM_LGS_1, CTIO, Optics9 Laser Box Into the Bent-Cass port 2 Pros: most convenient from installation point of view. Cons: only  60mm space for fold mirror M5 and protecting tube and protection tube in the way of the SOAR M1 covers. Proposal: LB in same position but Outside the Tel.Ring (orange) M5 M4 M3
