Facts about Food Waste Globally In September 2013 a UN report revealed that 1.3 billion tonnes of food were wasted globally each year causing £453 billions worth of damage to the environment. Each year more than 3 million children die as a result of malnutrition.

Facts about Food Waste In the UK Food waste is a major issue. Approximately 15 million tonnes of food are thrown away each year in the UK. From Supermarkets Tesco reveals most bagged salad and half its bread is thrown out Britain's supermarkets generate 300,000 tonnes of food waste every year 40% of apples were wasted in supermarkets

Facts about Food Waste From our Homes 50% of the total food thrown away in the UK comes from our homes. We throw away 7 million tonnes of food and drink each year. The food that we waste costs us £12.5 billion a year. There are 2 main reasons why we throw away good food: we either cook or prepare too much or we don’t use it in time.

Food Poverty This is at a time when there is a food poverty crisis in the UK. Food poverty in UK has reached level of 'public health emergency', warn experts. Don’t forget, if you can donate any foodstuffs, we are having a food drive during Environment Week beginning 28th April. Food collected will be taken to the local food bank.
