17 Introduction: Understanding God’s plan of Salvation is as easy as A-B-C. These verses from the book of Romans are called the "Roman's Road." We call this God’s simple plan of salvation. I. ALL HAVE SINNED -- Romans 3:23 “all” = universality of sin, therefore "you" have sinned. “Sinned” = "miss the mark." God's mark is perfection and absolute holiness (Matt.5:48; 1 Pet.1:16). "Fall short' definition of sin as not measuring up to God's standard. 1. Guilty sinners -- Yes, we stand guilty before the Judge of the universe as having violated His holy precepts and are deserving of the consequences he hands down. 2. Helpless sinners -- See Romans 3:10-12 “No one” is emphatic. "Righteous" = straight, therefore none righteous, but all are crooked, bent, perverse. “Understands” = according to Proverbs 14:12 man thinks he's O.K. but he's not. “Turned away” = compare Isaiah 53:6. ‘Unprofitable’ = useless, unlovely. “None does good” = can't do good to save ourselves. This point should be emphasized to those who think they can merit or work for God's salvation. 3. Condemned sinners -- See Romans 6:23a “Wages” = what we earn for- our sin = death. “Death” = physical, spiritual (separation or alienation from God), eternal (Rev.20:15 = Hell). II. BUT THE “GIFT” -- a gift is free, no work required or not a gift (compare Rom.11:6). Notice that the Gift is “in” Christ. To get the gift you have to accept Christ. Why Him? Who is He and What has he done? What does He posses that is so important? 1. Who Christ Is -- Romans 9:5 This verse is used to support the deity of Jesus Christ from the book of Romans and in our outline. To do so one MUST follow the punctuation of the NIV translation. The KJV did not punctuate it the same. For this reason you. may wish to use John 1:1 & 14 in its place. According to the proper punctuation this verse would read that “Christ" (who is the antecedent to the word “who") “is God over all, forever praised" (NIV). 18 2. What has Christ done? -- died for us! Romans 5:6,8 “For” = Greek word huper = substitution = he took my place. He did so when we were “Powerless” = helpless sinners as outline and verse 3:10-12 states. “Demonstrated” = showed or demonstrated. “love” = compare John 3:16. 3. What Christ Has -- Romans 6:23b --the gift of eternal life. He purchased it with his own blood and offers it freely as a gift! This leads us to ask, “How do we get the gift?” III. CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD When emergencies happen in life we know who to call. 911. But when it comes to accepting the gift of God we must call on Christ Romans 10:13. So How do we call? 1. Call Confessing -- Romans 10:9-10 “Confess” say the same" as God does about Christ and our sin.. 2. Call Believing -- Romans 10:9-10 “Believe” means to trust in and commit to Christ. Some people miss heaven by 12 inches. The distance between the head and the hear. They give mental assent (believe the fact of Jesus) but not the heart to Jesus. When the heart is given to Jesus the person is “Saved” = delivered from sin's penalty, power, and/or presence. 3. Call Praying -- Romans 10:13 “Everyone” = each person who will. “Call” by means of prayer. Conclusion: Does this make sense? Then accept Him right now and be saved 2.
