7. THESSALONIKI The population of Thessaloniki is about 900,000 people. Thessaloniki is situated in the north part of Hellas, Macedonia. Thessaloniki was founded by Cassandros and was named after his wife Thessaloniki who was the sister of Alexander the Great. The landmark of Thessaloniki is the White Tower!!!!

10. OREOKASTRO, OUR TOWN Oreokastro is a suburb in the northwest of Thessaloniki. It has a population of about 40.000 people. It was founded in the 1920s.

11. PAST TIMES The first people who settled in Oreokastro were Greek immigrants from the Black Sea region (the Greek people of Pontus). They named the small town after a castle located in Adrassa, a town on the coast of Pontus Euxinus (The Black Sea). “Oreokastro” means “beautiful castle”.

12. KONTAXOPOULIO SPORTS CENTRE Kontaxopoulio is the most popular sports centre in Oreokastro. There,children can do lots of sports like football,basketball, volleyball, tennis etc.

14. Past times of the school It was the first school that was built in Oreokastro. It was made of stone and there were two floors. The new school building was built in 2006!

15. Our school today It is a very big building. There are 3 floors. On the ground floor, there are 7 classes, a computer lab and a music lab. There is also a small gym!

16. On the first floor there are 5 classes,a science lab, a library, the teachers'office, the headteacher’s office and the toilets. On the third floor, there are 6 classes and a school theatre. The view from up there is fantastic!
