2 Volunteering with Northumbria Students’ Union We have lots of student-led projects that other students lead for you to volunteer with. 4 SCAN is the volunteering arm of Newcastle University Student Union, whether its helping the elderly, working with animals or doing a spot of gardening, SCAN will find the perfect project for you! SCAN currently has over 200 opportunities with 110 local charities and worthwhile organisations, We have regular long term opportunities as well as one-offs which are a perfect introduction to volunteering with SCAN. We have our own programme of environmental projects where we do gardening in the community, grow fruit and veg at our allotment, keep bees, we even have access to our own woodland and brew our own beer!

5 Why volunteer???? Volunteering is a great way of making a positive impact on the city you are studying in. As well as looking good on your CV and providing you with excellent work experience it is a fantastic way of meeting people and making new friends. You may want work experience to support your degree course, or you might want to volunteer in an area that has nothing to do with your studies, either way SCAN will have the project for you.
