2 Purpose WII propaganda had many purposes during the war. They demonized the enemy. Encouraged viewers to buy war bonds/pay their taxes. Also helped to relieve the tension of the War.

3 Activity Look at the WWII poster. What message is it trying to send? Who is the message intended for?

4 With the Following Slides Consider the Following Questions: –What the purpose of the propaganda? –Who is it’s target audience? –Who are they demonizing/mocking? Hyperlinks in Titles.

5 Der Fueher’s Face Popular cartoon during the war. Put Donald Duck in Nazi controlled territory. Mocked the Nazi party. Made people remember freedoms they may have taken for granted.

6 Draftee Duck Cartoon that had Daffy Duck in fear. Fear from the draft board. Released in the final year of the war. Made in celebration of America’s growing victory.

7 Reason and Emotion A Cartoon made during the war by Walt Disney. Made in dark times of the war. Purpose to remind people not to let our emotions overtake our common sense. Hitler an example of someone who controls people with emotions.

8 Education For Death Cartoon based on anti-Nazi book by Gregor Ziemer. Tells the story of one of Hitler’s “children.” From their birth to their death in war. Both comical and serious. Portrays Hitler as a cruel leader.

9 Herr meets Hare Cartoon that puts Bugs Bunny in Germany. Made fun of Hitler and Herman “Fatso” Goering.

10 Spirit of ‘43 Encourages people to pay their taxes for the war effort. Blames Hitler for the increase in taxes. States when you spend money on something you don’t need, you’re helping the axis.

11 Herman “Fatso” Goering A decorated Nazi war officer. Hitler’s appointed successor. Commander of the German Air Force. Commonly used Nazi officer in Propaganda films. Portrayed as fat. With a ridiculous number of medals on his chest.

12 Stereotype Activity Look at this poster. What is stereotypical about this poster.
