What does poor in Spirit look like 11 But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?“ 12 And God said, "I will be with you“ (Exodus 3) 5 "Woe to me!" Isaiah cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.“ 6 Then one of the seraphs said, “Your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.“ (Isaiah 6) 3 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. 10 He said, "The Israelites have rejected your covenant and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too." 11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." (I Kings 19)

Oscar Schlinder talking to Itzhak Stern I could have got more out. I could have got more. I don't know. If I'd just... I could have got more. Oskar, there are eleven hundred people who are alive because of you. Look at them. If I'd made more money... I threw away so much money. You have no idea. If I'd just... There will be generations because of what you did. I didn't do enough! You did so much. This car. Why did I keep the car? Ten people right there. Ten people. Ten more people. This pin. Two people. This is gold. Two more people. He would have given me two for it, at least one. One more person. A person, Stern. For this. I could have gotten one more person... and I didn't! And I... I didn't!

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven Being open to someone richer than ourselves

Mark 7 24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an evil spirit came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. 27 "First let the children eat all they want," he told her, "for it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs." 28 "Yes, Lord," she replied, "but even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs." 29 Then he told her, "For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter." 30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone. Thank God for his written Word to us Being open to someone richer than ourselves

Blessed are … Those who recognize their need for resources outside themselves Those who do not take themselves too seriously Those who receive and live life as a gift Those who know their need of God

Blessed are the poor in Spirit Am I a good neighbour? Am I a good son/daughter? Am I a good friend? Am I a good wife/husband, parent? Am I a good colleague? Are we a welcoming church? Am I a good child of God?

We celebrate and give thanks for the life of Jesus the hands that touched the untouchable, healed the hurting and did no violence; the feet that got dusty along city streets and at the lake’s shore the arms that welcomed the stranger and embraced the outcast; the legs that entered homes and synagogues and danced at celebrations; the eyes that blazed against injustice, knew how to cry and saw the potential in everyone; the belly that shared table with unexpected people and shook with laughter; the lips that wove stories and painted pictures of a new community and a better world. We pray that we may be the body of Christ

Sharing This broken bread we share is the body of Christ. It is a sign of all that we live and risk together as the community of Christ. Let all who seek Christ take and eat.

This cup we drink together is the wine of the kingdom of God, the sign of God’s undertaking for the life of the world. Let all who seek Christ take and when we are all ready let us drink together.

Post Communion We have taken bread and wine into our bodies. Now may these hands be the hands of Christ in the world, may they do no violence. May these eyes see those who are overlooked, may these ears listen to those who are unheard, may these voices be raised for the voiceless, lest our songs of praise be empty. May these feet take us where Christ leads, and may these hearts and minds be open to your Spirit. Christ has re-membered us, may we re-member Christ. For Christ has Died - Christ is Risen & Christ will come again.

From Amen to Action May the Father from whom every family in earth and heaven receives its name strengthen you with his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, and that, knowing his love, broad and long, deep and high beyond our knowledge, you may be filled with all the fullness of God; cf Ephesians 3.15-19 And may the Blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below: Praise God above, now let's all hear it! Praise Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Our Gathered worship has ended, our Worship & Service continue
