Information Theory Society Board of Governors Meeting St. Petersburg, Russia July 31, 2011

Members: Andrea Goldsmith (Ex-Officio and Chair) Frank Kschischang (Ex-Officio) Dan Costello Jim Massey Dave Neuhoff Responsible for staffing Fellows, Shannon, Wyner, and Awards committees By Jan. 31, except for Fellows (Oct. 1 of previous year) Puts forward a BoG slate of candidates at the annual BoG meeting. Other appointments as needed (EiC, CC Chair). So barring any unexpected resignations, scandals, etc., our committee’s work is done

“No later than two weeks prior to the Annual Meeting of the Society, the N&A Committee shall forward to the Board the biographies of at least 12 Society members as candidates for election to the Board.” “Additional nominations of Society members can be made by Board members at the Annual Meeting, provided such nominations are endorsed by five Board members.” “Individual voting members of the Society eligible to vote in the election for the Board may nominate Society Members by written petition provided such nominations are made at least 28 days before the date of the election”. - The biographies were sent and posted two weeks ago - There is no vote on these candidates Six new BoG members elected in fall, along with one from each under-represented region

Suggestions solicited from the BoG and the N&A Committee. Superlist generated based on all suggestions. N&A Committee converged on 12 candidates + backups, taking into account BoG members completing their 1 st term Seasoned wisdom vs. “young turks” Demonstrated Society leadership Geographic representation, including underrepresented regions (none this year) Diversity, broadly interpreted Candidate and BoG history

“At the Annual Meeting of the Society, the Board shall nominate one or more of its members for the posts of President, 1st Vice- President, and 2nd Vice-President. Each nomination shall require a mover and one seconder. It shall be the responsibility of the mover to ascertain in advance the willingness of the nominee to serve if elected.”
