3 Why do we need a Plan B Think of income and resources within your organisation as cheese Cheese makes you and your organisation happy

7 Why do we need a Plan B What is your cheese, and where does it come from How has it moved?

8 Why do we need a Plan B The more important cheese is to you, the more you want to hang on to it Have more varieties of cheese – what percentage of your resources comes from just one source – rule of thirds Can you take what you do and deliver it somewhere else

9 Why do we need a Plan B The sooner you let go of the old cheese, the sooner you can find new cheese

10 Why do we need a Plan B What is new cheese for you Funding from trusts – small and large grants, don’t focus on getting what you want from just one grant Funding from local and national government Funding from companies – sponsorship Funding from individuals – donors, sponsors, legacies, young people Funding from other commissioned sources, health, juvenile justice Events Trading – selling services (make sure you have something to sell and that it is worth buying) Online funding – crowd funding, online giving

11 Why do we need a Plan B Can you share your cheese with others Get less of the cheese but more varieties of cheese through: Consortium working Partnerships Sub contracting Being spot purchased Through Personal budgets

12 Why do we need a Plan B It is safer to search in the maze than remain cheese less Can you work together to find new cheese and share the cheese you have

13 Why do we need a Plan B Move with the cheese – adapt and change Can you use less of the cheese you already have - New methods, new systems, new styles Different staffing models – volunteers, part time, sessional workers, apprenticeships, consultants, share staff with others Co – location – sharing premises and costs Joined up back office and admin, payroll, finance, bidding etc

14 Why do we need a Plan B Golden Rules Change happens – they keep moving the cheese Anticipate change – get ready for the cheese to move Monitor change – smell the cheese often so you know when it is getting old Adapt to change quickly – The quicker you let go of old cheese, the sooner you can find new cheese

15 Why do we need a Plan B Golden Rules Change – move with the cheese Enjoy change – Savour the adventure and enjoy the taste of new cheese Be ready to change quickly and enjoy it again and again Because they keep moving the cheese
