2 Henry Fielding Born ( 22 April 1707) in England. Died (8 October 1754) in Lisbon, capital of Portugal. He was novelist and play Wright (dramatist). Henry Fielding and Samuel Raichardson considered to be the founders of the english novel. Among his major and famous novels are: Joseph Andrews (1742) and Tom Jones (1749).

3 Henry Fielding Was an eighteenth century English writer, who established the techniques of writing modern novel throught his novel Joseph Andrews. First he started as playwright then moved toward novel writing. He married Charlotte Craddock. In 1740 Samuel Richardson published Pamela, that was written by Henry Fielding anonymously,

4 Then Joseph Andrews was publsihed anonymously, Throughout all this success, Fielding faced difficult years of his life, that his father passed away in 1741. Followed the death of one of his daughters in 1742 and his wife in 1744. He married his wife's maid in 1747 after a long time of grieving. Then at late time of his life his health was not well as he traveled by sea to Portugal with his wife and daughter in the summer of 1754. But never came back to England as he passed away in Lisbon.

5 Joseph Andrews is divided into three books. The nickname for Henry Fielding is the father of the English Novel. Education: Eton College, Leiden University.

6 Characters List Characters inside the novel: Joseph Andrews: handsome young man. Mr. Booby: the nephew of sir Thomas Booby. Sir Thomas Booby: the dead husband of Lady Booby. Lady Booby: a pretty widow who tries all the ways to seduce Joseph Andrews. Mrs. Slipslop: a woman servant who also peruses (wants to catch-to follow) for Joseph. Gaffar and Gammar Andrews: Parents of Pamila and thought to be also Joseph.

7 Characters List Frances (Fanny) Goodwill: A beautiful country girl, the beloved of Joseph. The Wilsons: the real parents of Joseph. Lawyer Scout: an immoral (unethical ) lawyer. Betty: a warm hearted (kind) chambermaid ( a woman who cleans and arranges bedroom). Mr. Abraham Adams: a clergyman (a member of the clergy in the church) with approach(desire). Peter pounce: The steward ( responsible for the landlord and property) to Lady Booby.

8 Characters List Postillion: The generous person who offers a coat for Joseph to cover himself. Barnabas: a decisive drinking clergyman.
