2 The leaf below is from a wild almond tree

3 This leaf is from a eucalyptus tree

4 This one is from an ash tree

5 This leaf comes from the fig

6 This is a holly leaf

7 This is a carob leaf

8 Here is a picture of a Holm Oak or Sigra

9 Here is its leaf

10 We shall teach InterModeller how to identify these different trees

11 Divide these leaves into two groups

12 The holly, wild almond and eucalyptus are single leaves. The leaves from the ash, fig, carob and evergreen oak are made up of several smaller leaflets.

13 These are all single leaves. How can you tell which is which?

14 There are two ways of doing it. The wild almond is definitely green but the eucalyptus is a bluish colour The holly is the only one which has prickles

15 These leaves are multiple leaves

16 Which one is different from all the others?

17 The Holm oak leaves are arranged in a fan

18 The others are arranged in pairs along the stalk.

19 How do you know which is which? You count the number of pairs

20 The fig has two pairs

21 The ash has three pairs

22 The Carob has four pairs

23 A task for you – complete the classification chart for identifying trees from their leaves

24 Is the leaf a single or multiple one Single Does it have prickles Yes Holly No What colour is the leaf Green Wild Almond Bluish Eucalyptus Multiple
