Date of death and how she died April 16 1971 March 31 1995 corpus christi TX Murder, firearm, homicide, On Friday March 31,1995 Selena had confronted Yolanda Saldivar about finance papers that was stolen. To get out of the situation, Saldivar lied and said that she had been mugged When doctors found no evidence of, her being mugged Selena demanded a answer about the finance papers. When Selena and Saldivar reached back to the hotel, they ended up engaging in a big argument. Before Selena left the hotel room, she took off the friendship ring that Saldivar bought her. As Selena turned around to give back the friendship ring, Saldivar pulled out a gun from her purse and aimed at Selena. In shock, Selena turned and tried to get out of the room and call for help. Saldivar then pulled the trigger and the bullet hit Selena in the right shoulder blade. Selena used all energy to get to the main lobby to report that she had been shot. Selena then fell on the lobby floor and screamed, "Close the door, she has a gun and shoot me again!!!!'' Immediately, the workers started to aide her while one called for the ambulance. Then she was rush to a local hospital, only to be pronounced she had died at 1:05 pm. In the spring of that year she was working on her first English-language album, when she went to a motel room in Corpus Christi, TX, to fire 34-year-old Yolanda Saldivar, the woman who managed Selena's boutique in San Antonio, and the founder of the Selena fan club. A few days before the confrontation Selena's father had unearthed paperwork proving that Saldivar had been embezzling from the fan club. Saldivar and Selena argued and as the singer left, she was shot in the back. Selena didn't die right away and managed to stagger into the lobby where she named Saldivar as the killer. An hour later, Selena died in a local hospital. It was a death that rocked the entire Latino music industry. Saldivar was convicted for the murder of Selena on October 23rd, 1995. Three days later she was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for at least 30 years.
