4 44 The Massachusetts Tiered System of Support (MTSS) MTSS focuses on system structures and supports across the district, school, and classroom to meet the academic and non-academic needs of all students, including students with disabilities, English language learners, and students who have already demonstrated mastery of the concepts and skills being taught. 12 Who are we?  Targeted assistance district  6000 students  High Needs is 49.8%  ELL is 8.2%  Low Income 39.4%  SPED 17.9%  Currently serve 3 elementary and 1 middle school  Reservation funds support two Level 2 schools and academic support grants fund supports at the Level 2 high school  Blended grant resources support all eligible students Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 12

14 Parent involvement Opportunities are provided for parent involvement that provide training and supports for parents:  Parent breakfast  Annual meeting at open house  Workshops at Stop & Shop, library, Capron Park Zoo…  Parent conferences  Family workshops – Literacy & Math Carnival / Reading Recipe Rally / Pizza, Poetry and Prelutsky /Hop Aboard the Mystery Bus  Communication through e-mail, connect ed, Facebook, twitter, backpacks, phone calls, school website, conferences, Aspen, newsletters  Resources for families in need Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 14

19 MTSS partnership grant (pilot district) New initiatives:  Implementation Science Training through SISEP  PBIS training through UConn  UDL  Secondary Transition Practices with MRC Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 19

20 Tier I Core Instruction  All Students  Focus on differentiated instruction  Co-teaching model to decrease the ratio between students and teachers  Inclusion classrooms include both special education students and ELLs  Diagnostic and formative interim assessments  Progress monitoring within the data cycle includes action plans and re-teaching Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 20
