1. Surah Al-’Asr

2. One of the earliest surahs of the Qur-an

3. One of the shortest surahs of the Qur-an

4. It is very simple and easy to understand

5. Four fundamental points about this Surah

6. سُوۡرَۃُ الۡعَصَرِ وَ الۡعَصۡرِ (By the passage of time) اِنَّ ا لۡاِنۡسَانَ لَفِیۡ خُسۡر(Indeed man is in loss) اِلَّا (Except) 1.الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا (Those who believed) 2.وَ عَمِلُوۡا الصّٰلِحٰتِ ( And they did righteous deeds ) 3.وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ(And they directed each other with truth) 4.وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ (And they directed each other with patience)

7. This surah alone is enough for man’s guidance Those who believed And they did righteous deeds And they directed each other with truth And they directed each other with patience

8. We all have a criterion of success and failure

9. worldly criterion of success & failure &

10. wealth

11. property

12. status

13. honour

14. fame

15. power

16. All but few run after it

17. But Surah Al-’Asr tells us something different

18. Criterion of man’s success & failure is:

19. His belief

20. Is a righteous deed indeed

21. Directing each other with truth

22. Directing each other with patience

23. A person who doesn’t possess the above qualities is unsuccessful

24. Though he might be A billionaire and have: high status Position Power Kingship

25. A successful person might be Penniless Homeless Friendless Unknown Dishonoured Starving And may be not

26. (By the passage of time) وَ الۡعَصۡرِ

27. Al-’Asr Time Period that passes quickly

28. Time bears witness that…. Meaning

29. اِنَّ ا لۡاِنۡسَانَ لَفِیۡ خُسۡر (Indeed man is in loss)

30. Not a monetary loss of a few millions Complete destruction

31. What is Complete Destruction?

32. Problems in this world

33. And Hell in the Hereafter

34. Exception Ones who Have belief Do righteous deeds Direct each other with truth Direct each other with patience

35. Even one thing missing in your life can cause destruction.

36. اِلَّا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا (Except those who believed)

37. belief in: Allah (swt) Prophets Books Life after death Day of Judgement Reward and punishment Hell and Jannah

38. وَ عَمِلُوۡا الصّٰلِحٰتِ ( And they did righteous deeds )

39. righteous deeds belief

40. Can you guess his belief?

41. hers ?

42. theirs?

43. And What about yours?

44. There are two types of Muslims Muslims by deeds Practicing Muslims True Muslims in Allah (swt)’s book Muslims by name Non practicing Muslims Disbeleivers in Allah (swt)’s book

45. Your deeds indicate your identity

46. Allah (swt) exists? He is All-Seeing, All-Hearing, All- Knowing? He will take full account of all our deeds? He will punish us and reward us? Do you believe that

47. A Muslim just in name

48. What does it mean?

49. And they direct each other with truth وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ

50. Meaning Teaching good & stopping people from sins

51. They direct each other with patience وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ

52. patience truth

53. Advice is usually disliked by people

54. They frown

55. They can be curt

56. This is a real test of your patience

57. We get influenced by our environment

58. And influence it too

63. But how can I change it alone?

64. Remember

65. Interpretation of Hadith “If any one of you observes a vice, it is his duty to change it by force. If he is not able to do so, he should protest against it verbally. If he does not posses even this much of courage, his heart should regard it as bad, and he should regret that he could not stop it, and this is the weakest degree of faith. ”

66. At least repel it !

67. Are your ways different from the norm? If yes

68. Two things can happen

69. They tell you Allah (swt) tells you When in Rome, do as the Romans do Even in Rome, do as the Muslims do They tell you

70. Doing righteous deeds Directing each other to truth Directing each other to patience Faith

71. The minimum conditions for salvation

72. This is just Passing Grade

73. Anything less would be failure

74. False notions in society Just saying the kalimah is enough for salvation Spreading the word of Allah (swt) is not an obligation Religion is a personal matter We must mind our own business

75. Surah Al-’Asr are The words of Allah (swt)
