6 Malawi 2015 Day Itinerary : Dates: July 24-Aug 10, 2015 Affiliate: Malawi Day 1 – Friday - Departure Day Day 2- Saturday - Arrival Day Group Pick up from the airport by a HFH representative Welcome Dinner at a restaurant Overnight stay at the hotel Day 3 – Sunday – Orientation Breakfast at the hotel Remaining team arrivals in the morning HFH orientation at the guesthouse Grocery shopping *If Sunday visit to local mall or craft market (possible) Travel to HFH project accompanied by a HFH representative Welcome and introductions on arrival at community Dinner at the hotel Day 4-8 - Monday- Friday - Typical work day Breakfast at Hotel every morning Workdays - From 8:00am to 4:00pm (with regular breaks) Lunch at the building site Free time after work to clean up and carry out team activities Evening Cultural Activities (vary based on what is available in each location)

9 Useful Information Temperatures in July will be in the 70 F range. Lows of 60 F and Highs of 80 F. Warm clothing for the evenings. Light/work clothing for work days. Currency: Malawian Kwacha (MWK) National Language: Chichewa – Official Language: English Population of Lilongwe: 670,000 – (Malawi 15.8 million) Vaccinations- 6 weeks prior to departure: – Measles; Tetanus; Hepatitus A; Typhoid; Malaria (Malarone tablets) – Practice healthy eating and drinking Tourist Visa required for Bermudian passport holders ($145). All others no visa required.

10 Habitat for Humanity Malawi HFHM is a registered non-profit Christian housing organization affiliated to Habitat for Humanity International. HFH Malawi seeks to provide shelter as one way of eliminating poverty and improving the lives of orphans and other groups of people. The housing need in Malawi –Poverty is prevalent in 4 out of 5 families (typical village huts is made from mud bricks with a dirt floor and glass thatched roof which needs frequent repair) –The number of orphans and vulnerable children in Malawi has increased from 937,000 in 2001 to 1,400,000 in 2010, representing a 66 percent increase in less than a decade. –HFH Malawi provides new homes that are fully subsidized for orphans and other vulnerable groups of people. The houses are two, three or four roomed according to the family size. Habitat facts: Program started in 1986 –Provide new homes and housing support services –Habitat has helped more than 10,000 families –Habitat has hosted more than 2,000 volunteers (as of 2010) http://www.habitat.org/where-we-build/malawi
