Laboratory Directed Research & Development (LDRD) Employees propose projects, outside of current programmatic activities, at forefront areas of science and technology that are aligned with the missions of Fermilab and DOE. Typically, these are small, high-risk, proof-of-principle R&D projects. Fermilab’s LDRD program was approved by DOE (April 2014) at the $1.5M level and the first awards have just been made. Other nat. labs have had LDRD for some time. Thank you to 50 “new ideas” submitted as preliminary proposals. Of these, 29 full proposals were prepared and evaluated by the selection committee, and seven recommended LDRD projects have been approved by the Director. The next call for proposals is expected in the Fall for FY15. Information is available at the ldrd.fnal.gov web site or contact William Wester, LDRD Coordinator. 11 Excitement…Netherlands' Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.…on reorg! July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting11

Why the changes? Because Fermilab needs: –A structure that will help us to carry out the P5 plan Chief Project Officer to ensure lab-wide success as we tackle an unprecedented number of projects for the Office of Science Neutrino Division to provide visible organizational home for short- and long-baseline program Lab-wide focus on international collaborations and partnerships –Better communication between top management and the division and section heads Most division and section heads now report directly to the director, deputy director or COO Closer connections between management across all departments (“One Lab”) July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting12

July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting13

Offices of CFO, CIO and COO July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting14

All of the lab’s Chief Officers are expected to act in a strategic role, planning for the future of the laboratory Will be conduit to DOE Division Heads’ main role is to execute the program In the case of the CAO, both roles will be filled by the same person Role of the Chief Accelerator Officer July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting15July 1, 2014 Accelerator Division Sergei Nagaitsev July 1, 2014 Laboratory Director Nigel Lockyer Deputy Director/Chief Research Officer Joe Lykken Chief Operating Officer Timothy Meyer Office of the CAO Sergei Nagaitsev Chief Accelerator Officer Accelerator Physics Center Vladimir Shiltsev

Hasan Padamsee will also wear two hats as the strategy-focused CTO and execution-focused TD head In addition, Hasan will oversee the SRF program, including LCLS-II Rich Stanek is the senior engineer in the Directorate providing engineering advice across divisions and senior team leader for LCLS-II Role of the Chief Technology Officer July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting16 Laboratory Director Nigel Lockyer Deputy Director/Chief Research Officer Joe Lykken Chief Operating Officer Timothy Meyer Office of the CTO Hasan Padamsee Chief Technology Officer Rich Stanek, Deputy CTO Technical Division Hasan Padamsee

The Chief Project Officer is accountable for the successful execution of our project portfolio in concert with successful operation of the scientific program The CPO will have authority from the Director to address issues and solve problems The CPO will not have line management for projects The CPO is the conduit to DOE for projects Chief Project Officer July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting Laboratory Director Nigel Lockyer Deputy Director/Chief Research Officer Joe Lykken Chief Operating Officer Timothy Meyer Office of the CPO Mike Lindgren Chief Project Officer Office of Project Support Services Dean Hoffer (Acting)

Projects will be located within divisions Accelerator Division –PIP-II Technical Division –LARP, LCLS-II Particle Physics Division –CMS phase I and phase II upgrades, Mu2e, Muon g-2 –Dark energy, dark matter and CMB projects Neutrino Division –Short- and long-baseline neutrino projects July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting18

Aka “Chief Scientist” Neutrinos are our future: Neutrino Division proclaims that to the world ND will start small and grow as our short- and long- baseline program matures Initial composition of ND being discussed by Deputy Director and PPD and ND leadership teams FCPA and CMS Center now located within PPD Chief Research Officer (CRO) Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting20July 1, 2014 Laboratory Director Nigel Lockyer Deputy Director/Chief Research Officer Joe Lykken Chief Operating Officer Timothy Meyer Office of the CRO Joe Lykken Chief Research Officer Greg Bock, Deputy CRO Particle Physics Division Patricia McBride (Fall 2014) Neutrino Division (Fall 2014) Gina Rameika Fermilab Center for Particle Astrophysics Craig Hogan CMS Center Kevin Burkett (Acting)

Scientific career advancement philosophy Employees should be able to advance in their careers based on scientific, engineering and technical skill – even if they are not managers The lab is investigating new advancement mechanisms to make this possible In alignment with this effort, Chief and Division and Center head positions typically held by scientists will rotate approximately every 5 years to allow others the management experience Returning to science after management is encouraged July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting21

New focus to execute the Campus Master Plan especially as it is tied to executing the P5 recommendations Office’s team responsible for –readiness of existing facilities –campus planning and strategy –securing new sources of outside funding Role of the Office of Campus Strategy & Readiness July 1, 2014Nigel Lockyer | July 1 All-Hands Meeting22July 1, 2014 Office of Campus Strategy & Readiness Randy Ortgiesen July 1, 2014 Laboratory Director Nigel Lockyer Deputy Director/Chief Research Officer Joe Lykken Chief Operating Officer Timothy Meyer Office of the Chief Operating Officer Timothy Meyer COO Facilities Engineering Services Section Kent Collins
