2  James 1:26-27 “If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”

3  Subjective Christianity  Looks at externals  Based on things like attendance  Based on self evaluation – comparing to others.

4  THREESKOS – only time found as an adjective in the Bible.  Speaks of one who fears God and serves based upon that fear.  Can be good, or bad depending upon outcomes.

5  Empty  Worthless  Devoid of value

6  Pure = KATHAROS  Clean  Cleansed  Purified

7  AMIANTOS =  Free from impurities  Uncontaminated

8  Practical application of religion.  VISIT: indicates service to meet needs.  Joining the Lord in His work:  Ps. 146:9

9  “The Lord protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow, but He thwarts the way of the wicked.”
